HC Deb 29 November 1985 vol 87 cc711-2W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services which hospitals have auditory response cradles; and what encouragement he is giving to health authorities to ensure that all hospitals with maternity units have one.

Mr. Whitney

The auditory response cradle is still being evaluated under a research project funded by the Department. Lists of hospital equipment are not held centrally, but the Department and the Department of Trade and Industry has funded the provision of several cradles for use in Great Britain and it is known that cradles have been used by at least six hospitals in England. In May 1984 the Department held a seminar to discuss the place of the cradle in infant hearing screening.
