§ Mr. HayhoeUrgent consideration is being given to the guidance issued to health authorities on issues relating to food hygiene. The point raised by the right hon. Member and any recommendations in the forthcoming report of the Stanley Royd inquiry will be taken into account in developing procedures health authorities will be expected to follow in the event of any future outbreak.

§ Mr. WhitneyThe table shows the numbers of deaths which occurred in National Health Service and non-NHS hospitals in England and Wales where the underlying cause of death was salmonellosis or other bacterial food poisoning (International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 9th revision 003 and 005) for the latest six years.
These statistics relate to persons who died in hospital; the location of the patient at the time of the acquisition of the infection is not known to the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys.
