§ 16. Mr. Wilkinsonasked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will make a statement on the initiation of a mid-life update programme for the Tornado aircraft of the Royal Air Force.
§ Mr. Norman LamontTogether with our Tornado partners we are currently studying options to enable Tornado to continue to meet the evolving threat through the 1990s and into the early part of the next century. These options include updating the aircraft performance, avionic fit and weapons carriage capability. Decisions on the way ahead will not be made until next year.
