§ Dr. Godmanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what training residential social workers receive in the identification of non-accidental injuries and the protection of children at risk of such injuries.
§ Mr. Whitney[pursuant to his reply, 22 November 1985, c. 338]: Residential social workers who hold recognised social work qualifications will have received training on work with children and families. In-service training on child abuse for both qualified and unqualified workers is provided by employing authorities. Detailed information on such training is not held centrally but the types of training available include induction training for new staff, multi-disciplinary day seminars under the auspices of the local inter-agency child abuse review committee and day release courses promoted by the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work and other recognised training organisations.
