HC Deb 25 November 1985 vol 87 c414W
Sir Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how long the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre has held Bernard Christopher Kennedy's driving licence; and why this has not been returned to Mr. Kennedy suitably corrected.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Mr. Kennedy's licence has been held at the centre since January 1985. Mr. Kennedy notified a correction to his date of birth which meant that his licence had to be regarded as expiring on his seventieth birthday in December 1984. He was invited to apply for its renewal and did so in March. Due to a clerical oversight incorrect action was taken on the application.

I apologise for the inconvenience caused to Mr. Kennedy and am glad to report that his licence was sent to him on 22 November. Those concerned will be reminded of the serious consequences and inconvenience which can be caused when correct procedures are not followed.
