§ Mr. Bestasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many prison officers presently members of the Territorial Army will be prevented from being members of the Territorial Army under revised guidelines;
(2) why certain prison officers are prevented from joining the Territorial Army.
§ Mr. MellorPrison officers are not permitted to join the Territorial Army because they are classified as a reserved occupation and would not be available for call-up in a national emergency. Figures for prison officers prevented from joining the TA are not collected centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
