§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assistance Her Majesty's Government have given to deaf or hearing-impaired people in Third world countries.
§ Mr. RaisonIn 1984–85 about £28,000 was spent from the aid programme on assistance to the deaf and hearing-impaired in developing countries. This included a programme for the development of education centres for deaf children in Pakistan, a number of projects jointly funded with voluntary organisations and some training. In addition some £20 million was spent on activities which contributed to the general health of the community, including the prevention of disability.
