§ Mr. Hickmetasked the Prime Minister if she will make a statement about the implications for the United Kingdom of the proposed construction of a fixed link across the Channel; and what effect she estimates the construction of such a link would have upon employment and the steel industry.
§ The Prime MinisterThe four proposals for a Channel fixed link submitted by promoters in accordance with the Invitation to promoters are now being evaluated by a joint Anglo-French group of officials. Their evaluation will include an assessment of the impact of each scheme upon employment, not only in Kent but also throughout the economy generally. The Government will make a statement when their consideration of the alternative proposals is complete.
