HC Deb 20 November 1985 vol 87 cc211-2W
66. Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what contribution he expects the Treasure Houses of Britain exhibition to make to Anglo-American relations.

Mr. Eggar

I should expect the exhibition, as a major cultural manifestation strongly supported by both countries, to make a significant and valuable contribution to Anglo-American relations.

Those who have sent objects, as well as the organisers, should be congratulated. Both Governments have given it their full support. The exhibition can be seen as pan of the United Kingdom's general promotion in the United States which also demonstrates our contemporary industrial and technological strength.

The visit of their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales has excited considerable enthusiasm which can only be of benefit to Anglo-American relations.
