§ Mr. Blairasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what information he has as to how much British banks receive by way of debt and interest repayments from countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
§ Mr. Ian Stewart[pursuant to his reply, 14 November 1985, c. 274]: No comprehensive published information is available for British banks' receipts of debt and interest repayments from countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, table 15 in the Bank of England's Quarterly Bulletin shows outstanding 93W consolidated claims of United Kingdom registered monetary sector institutions (including their branches and subsidiaries worldwide) on certain individual African countries, a maturity analysis of which is also given. Table 14 in the Bulletin gives figures for the stock of United Kingdom claims and liabilities on a larger number of African countries of United Kingdom monetary sector and other financial institutions (not including branches and subsidiaries abroad).
