§ Q72. Mr. Patrick Thompsonasked the Prime Minister what recent discussions she has had with foreign Governments about unfair competition from cheap imports.
§ The Prime MinisterI certainly raise this issue in bilateral negotiations as and when the need arises, but this is principally a matter for the European Community. Indeed, the Commission acts vigorously against damaging imports which have been subsidised or dumped. For example, they have recently imposed definitive antidumping duties on certain hydraulic excavators and ball bearings from Japan.
