§ Mr. Burtasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will seek to obtain from the Swedish Government the full text of the report handed to the Swedish ambassador by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1957 of the alleged death of Mr. Raoul Wallenberg; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RifkindThe full text of the report handed to the Swedish ambassador by the then Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Gromyko, was made public by the Swedish Government in 1957. I am sending a copy to my hon. Friend.
§ Mr. Burtasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he last discussed the case of Raoul Wallenberg with the Swedish Government; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RifkindI discussed the case of Raoul Wallenberg with the Swedish ambassador in London when we visited the Wallenberg exhibition in London together in 1982. British officials have subsequently kept in close contact with the Swedish embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this matter, and we have made clear our willingness to assist the Swedes in their efforts to establish more clearly Mr. Wallenberg's fate. We have also raised the case on a number of occasions with the Soviet authorities. I did so most recently when I met Mr. Kornienko in July.
