§ Mr. Barry Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Wales how many (i) public sector jobs and (ii) local government jobs there are in Wales; and what have been the changes in each case since 1977.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsOn 8 December 1984 provisional figures indicate that there were 121,635 full-time equivalent local government jobs, including law and order services, a drop of 3,659 since 10 December 1977. It will take time to produce the information requested on the public sector. I shall write to the hon. Gentleman and place a copy in the Library.
