§ Sir George YoungAlthough the Development Corporation has been vigorously pursuing the tasks which must be completed before it is wound up, the target date of 30 June 1985, which my right hon. Friend announced on 21 December 1983, has not proved attainable. We now consider that the corporation's remaining assets and liabilities should transfer to the Commission for the New Towns in April 1986. The Department will initiate504W consultations with the Essex county council and the Basildon district council as soon as possible, with a view to the making of an order under section 41 of the New Towns Act 1981, winding up the corporation.
