HC Deb 22 May 1985 vol 79 cc460-1W
58. Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what advice he is giving to British residents intending to take holidays in Spain in the current year.

Mr. Renton

We are not at present advising British tourists who have booked holidays in Spain that they should consider changing their plans. It is, above all, for individuals to make their own holiday plans.

67. Mr. John Mark Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about United Kingdom relations with Spain.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

We enjoy excellent relations with Spain. We are allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, and have strongly supported Spanish membership of the European Community. Last year our total trade stood at some £3 billion, and some 6 million British citizens visited Spain. We look forward to the development of even closer links as the plans for Spanish entry into the Community are carried into effect.
