§ Mr. Lathamasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what report he has received from Her Majesty's ambassador in Tunis regarding the statement issued in Tunis on 4 May by the Palestine Liberation Organisation criticising Her Majesty's Ministers for refusing to meet Palestine Liberation Organisation representatives and describing the Balfour declaration as an unjust practice against the Palestinian 465W people; and what response has been made by Her Majesty's ambassador to the Tunisian Government concerning this incident.
§ Mr. LuceWe are aware of the statement referred to, which was based on a misunderstanding. The Palestine Liberation Organisation knows that meetings with British Ministers will remain difficult while its policies on the recognition of Israel's right to exist and the use of violence continue to be ambiguous. There has been no change in our policy.
