HC Deb 22 May 1985 vol 79 c473W
Mr. Gould

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will publish in the Official Report a table comparing the European Economic Community quota for milk output with the amount required to meet domestic consumption of liquid milk and dairy products in 1984 and 1985; and what proposals are contemplated for bringing supply into balance with domestic demand.

Mr. MacGregor

The quota for deliveries to dairies in the Community for the 1984–85 quota year was 99,049 million tonnes. For 1985–86 the quota for deliveries to dairies is 98.177 million tonnes: the size of the Community reserve for both years has been agreed at 393,000 tonnes. The EC Commission estimates consumption in the Community, in milk equivalent terms, at about 84.5 million tonnes in 1984–85 and 85.0 million tonnes in 1985–86.

As part of the recent agreement on prices for 1985–86 the Commission have said that they will be submitting to the Council by 1 November 1985 a proposal designed to introduce Community arrangements for premiums for the cessation of milk deliveries.
