§ 64. Mr. Sumbergasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the United Kingdom delegation to the conference on security and co-operation in Europe human rights conference in Ottawa will seek an opportunity to raise the issue of the freedom of individuals to practise their chosen profession without being subjected to religious or racial discrimination.
§ Mr. RifkindIt is not our practice to give commitments in advance to raise particular issues in discussions such as the Ottawa meeting. I can, however, assure the hon. Member that the matter to which he has referred will be borne in mind by our delegation there.
§ 86. Rev. Martin Smythasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the issue of postal communications will be raised by the British delegation to the conference on security and co-operation in Europe experts' meeting on human rights and fundamental freedoms in Ottowa and, in particular, the right of all citizens of countries which are signatories to the Helsinki Final Act to send and to receive letters without interference or obstruction.
§ Mr. RifkindI can confirm that the general question of concern to the hon. Member has been raised at the Ottawa meeting by the United Kingdom delegation.
