Mr. Maclennanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what improvements to the protection of human rights under the European convention were agreed by Her Majesty's Government at the Vienna review conference in March; and what further initiatives he proposes to take in this area.
§ Mr. RentonAt the Vienna conference I signed the eighth protocol to the European Convention of Human Rights. This will have the effect of reducing delays. The conference discussed a number of proposals which will be considered further in Strasbourg. We support practical proposals for improving the procedures of the European Convention of Human Rights.
