HC Deb 20 May 1985 vol 79 cc349-50W
Mr. Gould

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing for Spain and Portugal the production of Mediterranean products for which there are price and other guarantees under the common agricultural policy and the equivalent figure for European Economic Community production at the present time.

Mr. MacGregor

There is no universally accepted definition of the term "Mediterranean product". The most recent comparable information for a number of important products of the Mediterranean regions is as follows:—

‡ Millions of hectolitres for wine.
║Wine production figures in the FAO Year Book are quoted in metric tonnes. They have been converted to hectolitres on the basis that 10 hectolitres of wine weigh one tonne.
¶ EC (10) figures relate to mandarins and clementines only.
• Olive oil is a biennial crop, with considerable fluctuations from one year to the next.
