asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is his Department's annual budget for computerised data processing, including hardware, software and out of house services; and how many staff of his Department are employed in carrying out computerised data processing work.

The annual budget for administrative computing in defence for 1985–86 is £72.5 million. The number of staff presently employed on this work is about 4,000.
