HC Deb 20 May 1985 vol 79 cc369-70W
Mr. Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will make a statement on the sending by post of classified papers between defence establishments.

Mr. Butler

Successive Governments' security procedures have provided for classified papers, except for some categories of the more highly classified papers, to be sent by post. Various safeguards are laid down, including the need to use registered mail or datapost in certain defined circumstances.
