§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe design of Bolton's new hospital accords with the guidance on Legionnaire's disease and hospital water systems contained in DHSS circular HN(80)39 and on cold water supply, storage and mains distribution arrangements in hospital technical memorandum No. 27 (June 1978). This remains the best guidance on reducing the risk of the disease but its adequacy will no doubt be considered by the public inquiry214W into the present outbreak in Stafford. Any lessons that are eventually learned from the experience at Stafford will be acted on in hospitals throughout the country.
