Mr. Chope

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) how many registered dockworkers were employed by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company on 1 January in each of the years 1979 to 1985, inclusive;

(2) how many people were in the employment of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company on 1 January in each of the years 1979 to 1985, inclusive;

(3) how many people were in the employment of the Port of London Authority on 1 January in each of the years 1979 to 1985, inclusive;

(4) how many registered dockworkers were employed by the Port of London Authority on 1 January in each of the years 1979 to 1985, inclusive.

* RDWs reallocated to MDHC were surplus to other employers in the port of Liverpool, the employers being in 1981, Huskisson Transit Company, and in 1983, West Coast Stevedoring Company.

The figures exclude recruitment of temporary employees by Neptune Security Ltd., a subsidiary of MDHC, hiring security wardens on short-term contracts.
