HC Deb 02 May 1985 vol 78 c201W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the increase in the target price for milk under the common agricultural policy for the current year generally and for each country after green currency and other adjustments; what will be the loss of revenue from the reduction in the co-responsibility levy; what is the forecast reduction in output of milk as a result of the total dairy package; and how this compares with the quota.

Mr. MacGregor

for the 1985–86 milk year, the Commission has proposed an increase of 1.5 per cent. in the target price for milk. The Commission has also proposed changes in green rates. If adopted as proposed the combined effect on the target price expressed in national currencies would be:

Per cent.
Belgium +1.5
Denmark +1.5
Germany +0.43
France +2.42
Greece +4.68
Ireland +1.5
Italy +1.5
Luxembourg +1.5
Netherlands +0.43
United Kingdom +1.5

If adopted, the proposed reduction in the coresponsibility levy from 3 per cent. to 2 per cent. of the target price would result, it is estimated in a fall in revenue to the Community of 167 million ecu in 1985.

The Commission estimates that for 1985–86 milk deliveries will be approximately equal to the quotas laid down. This would represent a cutback of about 1 per cent. compared with 1984–85 deliveries.
