HC Deb 02 May 1985 vol 78 cc224-5W
Mr Nellist

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwwealth Affairs if he will now introduce tape-recording of entry clearance interviews.

Mr. Renton

Following my visit to Pakistan and Bangladesh earlier this year, I have concluded that the costs of providing official tape recordings of interviews to proper standards would be disproportionate to the benefits.

I understand that similar considerations apply to the tape recording of interviews carried out in this country following application for entry clearance.
