HC Deb 01 May 1985 vol 78 cc146-54W
Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list each local authority in England indicating the amount of rate support grant per head for 1985–86.

Mr. Waldegrave

[pursuant to his reply 30 April 1985, c.89]: The information requested is in the table. The population figures used in the calculation are OPCS mid-1984 estimates. Rate support grant comprises block grant and domestic rate relief grant. The block grant component of the figures is local authorities' entitlements, after initial percentage close-ending but before holdback, in most cases on the basis of budgets received from authorities. For those few authorities from which a budget was not received in time for the calculation, the Secretary of State has estimated that:

—for rate limited authorities, their expenditure will be in line with the expenditure level determined by the Secretary of State on 24 July 1984;

—for the remaining authorities, their expenditure will be in line with the guidance figure notified to them on 11 December 1984.
