HC Deb 01 May 1985 vol 78 c160W
18. Mr. James Lamond

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions his Department has had with Portugal and Spain regarding the future of their textile exports to the United Kingdom following the accession by these two countries to the European Economic Community.

Mr. Channon

The arrangements for the Community's post-enlargement trade in textiles with Spain and Portugal were settled in the context of the Spanish and Portuguese accession negotiations.

Exports to the Community of 10 categories of Spanish textiles and 16 categories of Portuguese textiles will be subject to restraint for up to four years after accession.
