HC Deb 01 May 1985 vol 78 c178W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give for the latest year for which the figures are available the number of nurses who have completed a training course for the state registered qualification in (a) the Royal Masonic hospital, (b) Cheadle Royal hospital, (c) St. Andrew's hospital, Northampton and (d) any other private hospitals.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke:

The former qualification for the state register has, from 1 July 1983, been defined as that for first level nursing. First level nurses are on various parts of the register including general nursing, nursing of people suffering from mental illness and nursing of people suffering from mental handicap.

I understand from the English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, which keeps such information, that the numbers of nurses who completed a training course for the first level nursing qualification for the year ended 31 March 1985 were as follows:—

Number
a. the Royal Masonic hospital* ‡60
b. Cheadle Royal hospital ||15
c.St. Andrew's hospital Northampton ||25
d. any other private hospital NIL
* The Royal Masonic hospital nurse training school is combined with the NHS nurse training school at Queen Mary's hospital, Roehampton and for each nurse the training course involves both sectors.
The training at St. Andrew's hospital, Northampton is in conjunction with the NHS Northampton hospital school of nursing.
‡ (General).
|| (Mental Illness).
