§ Mr. Dobsonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he advised health authorities that contracts for ancillary services should not be determined without prior consultation with his Department.
§ Mr. Kenneth Clarke:On 25 March 1985. We simply wish to ensure that authorities are acting reasonably, making efforts to secure better standards and taking decisions solely in the interests of the service and patients. We are particularly anxious to continue to ensure that no contract is determined simply as a result of political pressure or industrial action.
