HC Deb 01 May 1985 vol 78 c132W
Mr. John Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has regarding the level of crime in inner city partnership areas; and how these figures compare with average levels of crime in England and Wales.

Mr. Mellor

The information available relates to those offences recorded by the police. Statistics of notifiable offences recorded by the police, other than those for the Metropolitan police district, are available centrally only by police force area. They are published annually in "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales" (Table 2.6 of the volume for 1983, Cmnd. 9349). The four inner city partnership areas outside the Metropolitan police district each form only a part of the police force area in which they are contained. The available information for the relevant police force areas and districts within the Metropolitan police district are given in the following table. The offences were not necessarily committed by or against residents of the area or district.
