HC Deb 28 March 1985 vol 76 cc277-8W
Mr. Evennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he intends to undertake a review of future development proposals in radio broadcasting; and if he will make a statement;

(2) whether he intends that community radio stations will be subject to the same degree of regulation as British Broadcasting Corporation and independent local radio;

(3) whether he has any plans to alter the existing regulatory arrangements for radio broadcasting.

Mr. Giles Shaw

As outlined in the reply given to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Kingswood (Mr. Hayward) on 23 January at columns417–18, the degree of regulation of community radio and its relationship with, and implications for, existing and prospective sound broadcasting services are among the matters which fall to be considered in the context of our study of how the development of community radio can best be taken forward. My right hon. and learned Friend hopes to make a further statement before long.
