HC Deb 28 March 1985 vol 76 cc283-4W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the maximum and minimum periods between the report of a case of industrial injury to the Factories Inspectorate and the conclusion of the inspectorate's inquiry; and what recommendations he has made as to a reasonable period of time for such an inquiry.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Information on the period between the report of an industrial injury to the Factories Inspectorate and the conclusion of the inspectorate's inquiry is not readily available.

The length of the time taken to inquire into cases of industrial injury varies considerably for a number of reasons.

Factors which may lengthen an inquiry include complex technical investigation, tracing witnesses, and the possibility of prosecution.

I have made no recommendations as to a reasonable period of time for such an inquiry.
