§ Mr. WaddingtonThree hundred and ten husbands were refused entry clearance in the Indian sub-continent in the two years 1983 and 1984 solely because of the primary purpose rule, and 20 husbands were refused partly on this ground. Statistics are not kept of how many of these husbands had children living in the United Kingdom. Corresponding information for years earlier than 1983, and for countries outside the Indian sub-continent is not available.
