§ Mr. Campbell-Savoursasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if his Department has studied recent cancer investigations made by the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States of America, relating to the herbicide alachlor; if this pesticide is in use in the United Kingdom; and what plans he has to issue a warning to users.
§ Mrs. Fenner[pursuant to her reply, 22 February 1985, c. 638]: The advisory committee on pesticides has now recommended a review of the data supporting the use of Alachlor. The recommendation was made in the light of a request to the manufacturer by the United States authorities for new studies, made on the grounds that the original data submitted in the 1960s had become out-of-date. The case is therefore separate from the issue of fraudulent data originating at IBT, which has also caused concern. The replacement data package has been received in the United Kingdom and is under study.
