§ Mr. Gouldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to ensure that his review of the supervisory arrangements for the banking system investigates whether Johnson Matthey was warned by the director of the International Maritime Bureau of the risks of lending money to Mr. Mahoud Sipra front 1982 onwards.
§ Mr. Ian Stewart[pursuant to his reply, 25 March 1985]: It is not the intention of the review to conduct a detailed inquest into JMB's past commercial judgments. Its purpose is to consider the present system for banking supervision in the United Kingdom and whether any changes in supervisory procedures are called for in the light of the problems at Johnson Matthey Bankers.
