HC Deb 25 March 1985 vol 76 c81W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if any grants or loans have been made by the Scottish Tourist Board to the Banff and Buchan district council for the promotion of tourism in that area.

Mr. John MacKay

The Scottish Tourist Board has recently given grant assistance to enable Banff and Buchan district council to make improvements to several of its tourist information centres and to provide coastal route road signs and a viewpoint indicator panel, and approved grant assistance for conversion of a hostel to a hotel.

Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the liaison between the Scottish Tourist Board and local tourist boards which have been set up by district councils in Scotland; and what joint promotional programmes are in being.

Mr. John MacKay

Liaison between the Scottish Tourist Board and the are a tourist board network is excellent. The Scottish Tourist Board is represented on all area tourist board committees at local level; at national level, co-ordination is achieved through the Scottish Confederation of Tourism, and through joint management meetings, working groups and newsletters.

Current joint promotional schemes include Scotland's travel trade fair, roadshows and exhibitions, and a major new joint advertising campaign.
