HC Deb 25 March 1985 vol 76 c76W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the purpose and objective of the inner German trade agreement.

Mr. Renton

Inner German trade is based on a number of agreements and laws, including the Berlin agreement of 20 September 1951 — 16 August 1960, which regulates trade in goods, services and payments between the deutschmark and east mark areas.

Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the United Kingdom has ever been provided with the opportunity of approving or reviewing the inner German trade agreement.

Mr. Renton

Inner German trade continues to be regulated in part by allied legislation. A protocol on German internal trade and connected problems forms an integral part of the EEC treaty, to which the United Kingdom became a party on 1 January 1973.
