§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing, for each country with diplomatic representation in the United Kingdom, and for each country where the United Kingdom has diplomatic representation, the respective numbers of diplomats in post in each country on 31 January in each of the last five years.
§ Mr. RentonThe attached table A shows the number of foreign and Commonwealth diplomatic agents in each mission in London on the date in each of the past five years at which our records were updated.
We do not keep precisely comparable records of United Kingdom-based diplomatic representation in posts overseas. The attached table B, which is based on information in "Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service Overseas Reference List" (a copy of which is available for reference in the Library), shows the numbers of United Kingdom-based diplomatic staff of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and other Government Departments in each overseas capital on 31 October of each of the past five years. These figures do not include non-resident representation, except for Chad.
