HC Deb 25 March 1985 vol 76 c36W
Mr. Alex Carlile

asked the Attorney-General if he will introduce legislation to permit a person who is aggrieved at the refusal of the Director of Public Prosecutions to institute criminal proceedings to challenge the decision in the courts; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

No. The Director of Public Prosecutions exercises his functions under my superintendence and it would be wrong to make his decisions subject to supervision by the courts and thus bring the courts into the prosecution process.
