§ Q88. Mr. Gregoryasked the Prime Minister if she will make a statement about Government support for the United Kingdom confectionery industry.
§ The Prime MinisterI recognise the importance of the confectionery industry to the economy and its valuable contribution from rising exports. The Government's policies are designed to provide the economic conditions to help industry as a whole become more competitive and increase its sales.
Confectionery manufacturers are eligible to apply for assistance under the full range of Government schemes designed to aid industry. Help for exporters is available from the British Overseas Trade Board and from Food from Britain, whose current export marketing plan includes sugar and chocolate confectionery as priority products.
