asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish figures showing for 1982–83, 1983–84 and an estimate for 1984–85, the numbers in England of (a) full-time trainees, (b) apprentices and (c) trainees on day release courses.

  1. (a) The 1983 labour force survey shows that there were about 280,000 people undertaking apprenticeship training in the spring of 1983.
  2. (b) There were 409,000 students on day and block release courses in 1982–83 and 448,000 in 1983–84.
