HL Deb 18 March 1985 vol 461 c390WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the average cost, including appropriate allowances for overheads, teacher training, and other expenses, of educating one child to school leaving age.

The Earl of Swinton

The estimated cost, at 1982–83 prices, is about £11,000 per pupil in the United Kingdom. This figure includes an arbitary apportionment for the cost of training teachers. It assumes that the child was first admitted to school at the age of rive years.
