§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list his Department's responsibilities in respect of the collection of litter from the grass verges of the M4.
§ Mrs. ChalkerMy Department is responsible for all sweeping and cleansing of motorways. The main concern in exercising that responsibility is to ensure the safety of those using the roads. In addition we periodically clear litter for amenity reasons from verges, central reservations and slopes. The work is carried out on our behalf by agent authorities.
