HC Deb 15 March 1985 vol 75 cc309-10W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what financial assistance to create jobs has been directed through his Department since 1979 to the Holyhead travel-to-work area; how many jobs have been created; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Since 1 January 1979, offers of regional selective assistance made by my Department totalling £114,000 have been accepted by companies for new and expansion projects in the Holyhead travel-to-work area. These projects were expected to lead to the creation of 95 new jobs.

In addition, since that date my Department has approved urban programme assistance of £269,000 towards schemes which the local authority has estimated will employ between 170 and 180 people.
