§ Mr. Gordon Brownasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many pensioners would cease to be entitled to supplementary pensions if (a) additional requirements for heating and (b) other additional requirements were abolished.
§ Mr. Newton[pursuant to his reply, 16 November 1984; c. 386]: Provisional estimates indicate that if heating additions were abolished and no other compensating changes were made, about 300,000 supplementary pensioners would cease to be entitled to supplementary benefit. If other additional requirements were abolished and no other changes were made, somewhat under 50,000 would cease to be entitled to supplementary benefit.
