HC Deb 12 March 1985 vol 75 c125W
Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many incidences of rape were reported to the Royal Ulster Constabulary in each of the last five years; how many of these resulted in prosecution; and what was the outcome of these prosecutions.

Mr. Scott

The information is as follows:

1980 1981 1982 1983 1984
Incidents of rape reported 48 48 58 52 75
Persons proceeded against (for rape) 13 10 12 14 16
Persons found guilty 12 8 9 13 14

Note: The figures in relation to the persons proceeded against and those found guilty do not relate directly to the reported incidents in each year. Such a correlation could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
