asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the implementation of the Griffiths report.

I am pleased to report that health authorities are making good progress in making the changes envisaged in the Griffiths report, including the appointment of general managers.

Within our Department the health services supervisory board has been set up and the chairman of the NHS management board, Mr. Victor Paige, has recently been appointed. I am considering with Mr. Paige what further changes are required.
