HC Deb 12 March 1985 vol 75 cc117-8W
Dr. McDonald

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps have been taken to ensure adequate staffing at haemophilia treatment centres during the acquired immune deficiency syndrome crisis both in terms of treatment and counselling.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Portsmouth, South (Mr. Hancock) on 19 February at column446.

Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what resources he intends to allocate to scientists presently working on devising tests to screen blood for the purpose of detecting acquired immune deficiency syndrome symptoms.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We are giving financial support to scientists working on the development of a British screening test. We are also providing funds for the evaluation of screening tests, as they become available, to assess which will be most suitable for the National Health Service.
