HC Deb 08 March 1985 vol 74 c616W
Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many patients in Wales are supplied with oxygen by community pharmacists or through their own general practitioner; what is the cost of the service; how many of these patients would be classified as requiring major therapy and how many would be classified as requiring occasional use therapy; and how many patients in each of these categories use cylinder oxygen and how many use concentrators.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

At 30 September 1984, 6,026 patients were being supplied with oxygen by community pharmacists or by their own general practitioner. Of these, 143 patients would be regarded as requiring major therapy; a further 302 patients were supplied on a regular basis; and 5,581 were regarded as receiving occasional use therapy. All these patients were supplied by cylinder oxygen. The cost of the oxygen service in Wales for that month was almost £122,000.
